Then I uninstalled the disk version, uninstalled the steam version. Most important: Copy and move your old Save games located at c \users\name.\savedgames\Ascaron Entertainment. Now this is what I did after I encounted the missing text in the game buttons in the Sacred 2 gold steam version. It's probably possible for different Windows users to have their own preference too if you manually set it up per account, but I haven't tried this.Įdit: Update explanation as initially I thought no sound issue was an unrelated issue.įirstly I had a US disk version of Sacred 2 Fallen Angel and a UK disk version of Ice and Blood. The link here explains how to get these two versions working. You'll need to make sure you have the locale for both Language and Speed settings or else you will have the no text or no sound issue(s).įor movies to play the correct language change MovieTrack registry setting to Speech and language files are located at ".\Steam\steamapps\common\Sacred 2 Gold\locale" in a folder for your language selected Steam deletes the old language when you switch languages so you need to copy it first, then put it back once Steam has verified the files. This is accomplished by copying your current language to a temp location, switching language in Steam properties for Sacred 2 and downloading missing files, then copying your language back. However you need the French speech files. This would make the text English (UK) and the voice French and does not get overwritten. Now if you want to change the speech but not the game text language, you can't just edit these keys because they get overwritten by Steam when you launch the game, but you can override them by adding or edting keys at For US players, it will be en_US instead of en_UK. "InstallPath"="D:\\Games\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\Sacred 2 Gold"Įach key is a string value. Say Steam has these keys for English install: This made me realise you can also manually override steam language settings by writting/editing those keys, if you want to have a different text and speech language. That is the key at 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ascaron Entertainment\Sacred 2'. If you uninstall the retail version old settings should be removed, but if not you'll need to manually remove them. Switching steam language setting for Sacred 2 in the properties page to the same as what was originally installed brings the text and/or sound back (hence why some people report this as a fix). So if the settings in the latter key specifies a different language that steam installed it will be missing and all text will be blank and/or all sound will be missing. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ascaron Entertainment\Sacred 2Īnd these override the steam settings. However if you have a retail install the keys are stored at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Ascaron Entertainment\Sacred 2 When you install Steam it check this registry key for text language and speed language settings: Usual disclaimer applies so only update registry if you are comfortable with it.Īlso I have found a way to change the spoken language without changing the UI and game language which I'll explain in detail.Īnyway the missing text and no sound was caused by having a previous install of Sacred 2 retail version in another language. I didn't need to make sacred2.exe Windows XP SP3 compatible for it to work either or do anything else other than registry changes I'll describe below. I also had an issue with no sound which is somewhat related. Thought I would share my experience with missing text issues on Windows 7 64-bit.
